Description
This is a RARE Carboniferous ammonite fossil specimen of Eumorphoceras plummeri, a goniatitid ammonoid from the Finis Shale Formation, Arkansas, USA. This carefully selected specimen is 100% genuine and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Eumorphoceras plummeri is a member of the Order Goniatitida, Superfamily Goniatitoidea, and Family Eumorphoceratidae. It lived during the Late Carboniferous period, specifically within the Missourian Stage (Upper Pennsylvanian Subsystem).
The Finis Shale is part of the Graham Formation, a well-known geological unit deposited in a shallow marine depositional environment, often representing oxygen-restricted basinal settings interbedded with limestones and shales. These conditions were ideal for preserving marine fossils like ammonoids.
Morphologically, Eumorphoceras exhibits:
- Planispiral, involute coiling
- Ornamentation with fine growth lines or slight constrictions
- A compressed, discoidal shell with a relatively narrow umbilicus
- Complex suture patterns characteristic of the Goniatitida
These features make it distinct and highly collectable, especially due to the relative scarcity of Carboniferous ammonites when compared to Mesozoic varieties.
This fossil has been photographed to show the exact specimen you will receive. Each scale rule cube/square = 1cm. Please refer to the images for full sizing.
