This is a genuine Ichthyosaur rib bone fossil, discovered in the famous Black Ven Marls of the Lower Lias Formation, Lyme Regis, Dorset, UK. It dates back to the Early Jurassic period (~200 million years ago), a time when the seas were dominated by marine reptiles.

Ichthyosaurs were highly adapted marine predators, resembling modern dolphins but belonging to an extinct group of Mesozoic reptiles. They had elongated, streamlined bodies, large eyes for deep-sea hunting, and a powerful tail for swift movement. These animals ruled the ancient seas, preying on fish, cephalopods, and other marine creatures.
