Description
This is a rare and authentic fossil of Indocephalites kheraensis, an extinct ammonite species from the Middle Jurassic period, specifically from the Callovian Stage. This striking specimen was recovered from Madagascar, an island well known for its remarkably preserved marine fossils.
Indocephalites is a genus of planispiral ammonites belonging to the order Ammonitida. This particular species, kheraensis, is characterised by a moderately involute shell with slightly compressed whorls and finely ribbed ornamentation that distinguishes it from similar genera. The fossil reveals prominent growth lines and subtle ribbing—classic features of Callovian ammonites from the Indo-Madagascan realm.
