Description
A rare and scientifically significant fossil ammonite specimen of Kossmatia tenuistriatus, dating to the Upper Kimmeridgian Stage of the Late Jurassic, discovered in Russia. This fossil originates from the Alice Purnell Collection, renowned for its well-documented and curated paleontological specimens.
Kossmatia tenuistriatus is an extinct species of ammonite belonging to the family Perisphinctidae, superfamily Perisphinctoidea, within the order Ammonitida. It is characterised by its finely ribbed, moderately involute shell and typical planispiral form. This genus played a role in regional stratigraphy and serves as an important indicator for Kimmeridgian marine faunal assemblages.
