£36.00

Presenting a RARE Mantelliceras lymense ammonite fossil from the Lower Cenomanian stage of the Cretaceous period, unearthed in the fossil-rich region of Sarthe, France.

This well-preserved specimen belongs to the genus Mantelliceras, a group of acanthoceratid ammonites characterised by moderately evolute shells with pronounced ribbing. The genus was first described by S.P. Woodward and includes several index fossils useful in correlating Cenomanian marine strata.

This particular piece features the classic shell profile and ribbed ornamentation typical of the species, making it an ideal example for collectors or educational display.

  • Location Found: Sarthe, Pays de la Loire, France
  • Order: Ammonitida
  • Superfamily: Acanthoceratoidea
  • Family: Acanthoceratidae

  • Scientific Significance: Mantelliceras species are important index fossils for the Cenomanian and play a key role in stratigraphic correlation of mid-Cretaceous marine sequences in Europe
