Specimen Overview:

This rare fossil ammonite specimen is Pseudolioceras lithense, a finely preserved representative of the Upper Toarcian stage of the Early Jurassic period. The photograph provided shows the actual specimen for sale, accompanied by a 1cm scale cube for sizing reference. Please view the image for full visual and dimensional details.

Geological Context & Depositional Environment:

During the Upper Toarcian, Western Europe was submerged beneath warm epicontinental seas. Bulley was part of a shallow marine basin where fine-grained sediments settled, allowing exceptional fossil preservation. These deposits are associated with the Bifrons and Variabilis biozones—critical in Toarcian stratigraphy.

This environment was low in oxygen at times, favouring fossilisation and preservation of delicate marine fauna like ammonites, belemnites, and bivalves.

Morphology & Notable Features:

Pseudolioceras lithense is distinguished by its thinly discoidal, involute shell with dense, sinuous ribbing that extends continuously across the flanks and onto the venter. Its compact whorls and fine ornamentation give it an elegant, tightly coiled appearance, typical of the genus.

This particular fossil displays excellent preservation of surface detail, making it ideal for collectors and researchers alike. These ammonites are relatively scarce compared to other Toarcian species and are highly sought-after in European ammonite faunal collections.

Authenticity & Guarantee:

All of our fossils are 100% genuine and include a Certificate of Authenticity. Each piece is hand-selected and professionally prepared to ensure the best quality and presentation.

Perfect For:

  • Collectors of rare ammonites and Jurassic fossils
