It was discovered in the Drome region of France, an area well known for its rich marine sedimentary deposits from this time. The fossil is a carefully selected and 100% genuine piece, professionally cleaned and preserved. The accompanying photo shows the exact specimen you will receive.

A centimetre-scale cube is included for scale in the photo (each square = 1cm). Please refer to the image for full sizing and preservation details.

Geological Context & Depositional Environment:

The Spitidiscus rotula specimen comes from marine limestone and marl layers formed in a shallow epicontinental sea that covered much of southern Europe during the Hauterivian. These fine-grained sediments are ideal for preserving marine invertebrates in exquisite detail. Fossils from this zone provide insights into the rich diversity and evolution of ammonites during the Early Cretaceous.

The Drome locality specifically offers access to well-stratified sequences associated with warm, shallow marine conditions, likely influenced by fluctuating sea levels and sediment input from surrounding landmasses.

Morphology & Notable Features:

Spitidiscus rotula is characterised by its discoidal, planispiral coiling and distinctive ornamentation. This species typically features rounded whorls with fine ribbing and may show faint tuberculation depending on preservation. Its symmetry and shape contribute to its identification and make it an attractive and scientifically significant collector’s specimen.

Authenticity & Guarantee:

All our fossils are 100% genuine and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We take pride in providing scientifically important and aesthetically stunning specimens that have been carefully documented, prepared, and sourced.
