Geological & Stratigraphic Context:
- Formation: Schorym Formation
- Age: Late Eocene (Bartonian Stage)
- Depositional Environment: Marine shelf sediments, typically comprising fine sandstones and marls deposited in a shallow epicontinental sea.
- Location: Usak locality, Mangyshlak, Western Kazakhstan
Fossil Type & Species:
- Type: Fossil Shark Tooth
- Genus & Species: Striatolamia rossica usakensis (Menner, 1928)
- Family: Odontaspididae
- Order: Lamniformes
- Superfamily: Odontaspidoidea
This fossil represents a species within the sand tiger shark group, known for their elongated crowns and finely striated enamel. S. rossica usakensis is distinguished by its regional subspecific identity and rarity in the fossil record, especially from the Schorym Formation.
Morphological Features:
- Slender, elongated cusp with delicate longitudinal striations
- Paired lateral cusplets (may be worn)
- Root with well-defined lobes
Biozone / Zone (If Applicable): Bartonian regional biozone (Tethyan province), though precise microfossil zonation for the site is limited in public literature.
Notable Details:
- This is a carefully selected fossil, showing excellent preservation of key anatomical features
- The photograph shows the actual specimen you will receive
- Scale Rule Squares/Cube = 1cm for accurate size reference; please consult photo for full dimensions
Certification & Authenticity: All of our fossils are 100% genuine specimens and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. This shark tooth is part of a rigorously sourced collection, chosen for scientific interest, display value, and geological provenance.
