An exceptional and rare ammonite fossil of Virgatites pallasianus, from the Tithonian Stage of the Late Jurassic, collected in the Ulyanovsk region along the Volga River in Russia. This piece comes from the highly regarded Alice Purnell Collection, renowned for its rare and scientifically valuable fossil specimens.
Virgatites pallasianus belongs to the family Perisphinctidae, superfamily Perisphinctoidea, and order Ammonitida. The genus Virgatites is significant in Upper Jurassic stratigraphy, with this species known for its striking ribbing and tight coiling.
