This rare and well-preserved Ringsteadia pseudoyo ammonite fossil originates from the Kimmeridge Clay Formation of the Upper Jurassic (~157-152 million years ago) and was discovered at Ringstead Bay, Dorset, UK. Ringsteadia is a genus of ammonites known for its intricate ribbing, smooth whorls, and well-defined sutures, making it a fascinating specimen for fossil enthusiasts and collectors alike.
This particular specimen was discovered by our own team members, Alister and Alison, on 16 January 2025 and has been carefully cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison to ensure its structural preservation and aesthetic appeal.
Ammonites like Ringsteadia pseudoyo thrived in the warm, shallow seas of the Jurassic period, playing a significant role in the ancient marine ecosystem. The Kimmeridge Clay Formation is renowned for producing exceptionally well-preserved ammonites and other marine fossils, offering invaluable insights into the Jurassic seascape.
