Description
Authentic Squalicorax kaupi Fossil Shark Tooth – Upper Cretaceous, Black Creek Formation
This is a genuine Squalicorax kaupi fossil shark tooth, carefully sourced from the Upper Cretaceous (Campanian) deposits of the Black Creek Formation, found at Phoebus Landing, Bladen County, North Carolina, USA. Dating back approximately 83–72 million years, this fossil belonged to an extinct species of crow shark that thrived in prehistoric marine ecosystems.
Squalicorax, commonly known as the crow shark, was a mid-sized predator that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. It is believed to have been a scavenger, feeding on the remains of marine reptiles, fish, and even other sharks. Its teeth are characterized by a broad, triangular shape with finely serrated edges, designed for slicing through flesh and bone.
Geology & Formation:
The Black Creek Formation is a well-documented Upper Cretaceous marine deposit in the southeastern United States. This formation contains a rich fossil record of marine vertebrates, including sharks, mosasaurs, turtles, and fish.
