This exceptional Stephanoceras ammonite fossil originates from the Inferior Oolite formation of the Middle Jurassic (~174-170 million years ago) and was discovered along the Jurassic Coast in Burton Bradstock, Dorset, UK. Stephanoceras is a genus of ammonites characterized by its robust shell, pronounced ribbing, and complex suture patterns, making it a remarkable addition to any fossil collection.
This particular specimen was discovered by our own team members, Alister and Alison, on 17 January 2025 and has been meticulously cleaned, prepped, and treated by Alison to ensure its preservation and visual appeal.
Ammonites like Stephanoceras thrived in the warm, shallow seas of the Jurassic period, playing a crucial role in the prehistoric marine ecosystem.
