Description
This listing features an authentic Mosasaur fossil tooth, collected from the Cretaceous-aged phosphate deposits near Oued Zem, Khouribga, Morocco. Dating back approximately 66 to 100 million years, this fossil belonged to one of the most fearsome marine reptiles of the Mesozoic era.
Mosasaurs were not dinosaurs, but rather large marine reptiles that lived during the Late Cretaceous Period. They were air-breathing, carnivorous predators with sleek, hydrodynamic bodies that made them powerful swimmers. Mosasaurs had double-hinged jaws and flexible skulls, allowing them to swallow large prey whole—an adaptation much like that of modern-day snakes. Uniquely, they possessed two sets of teeth in their upper jaws: a primary row and a smaller inner row that helped secure and manoeuvre prey.
Unlike many reptiles, Mosasaurs gave birth to live young and spent their entire lives in the ocean, never needing to return to land. They were the apex predators of their time, feeding on fish, squid, and even other marine reptiles.
This fossil tooth provides a tangible connection to that incredible prehistoric world and is a fantastic item for collectors, educators, and enthusiasts alike.
