Description

Tragophylloceras Ammonite Fossil in Nodule

This genuine Tragophylloceras ammonite fossil is presented in a natural nodule from the Black Ven Marls of the Lower Lias on the Jurassic Coast. It was collected at Stonebarrow Cliff near Charmouth, Lyme Regis, Dorset, UK, a renowned coastal area associated with important Jurassic fossil discoveries. The specimen is supplied as the actual fossil shown in the listing photographs, making it suitable for fossil collectors, geology enthusiasts, natural history displays and Jurassic Coast memorabilia collections.

Black Ven Marls and Lower Lias Geology

The Black Ven Marls form part of the Lower Lias geological succession exposed along the Dorset coast. The Jurassic Coast is internationally recognised for its extensive sequence of rocks and fossils, offering a valuable record of ancient marine environments. Ammonites are extinct marine cephalopods, related in a broad biological sense to modern squid, cuttlefish and nautiluses. Their coiled shells and well-defined geological distribution make ammonites especially important to palaeontologists and collectors.

Tragophylloceras is an ammonite identification associated with the Jurassic fossil record. A Tragophylloceras specimen offers an appealing connection to the marine life represented in the Lower Lias and to the historic fossil-bearing cliffs around Lyme Regis and Charmouth. The surrounding nodule forms part of the specimen presentation and gives it the natural geological character sought by collectors of authentic British fossils.

Stonebarrow Cliff, Charmouth and Lyme Regis

Stonebarrow Cliff is located on the Jurassic Coast near Charmouth in Dorset, an area known for its exposed coastal geology and fossil-bearing rocks. This location adds strong regional interest to the specimen, connecting it with one of the best-known fossil collecting areas in the United Kingdom. Its Black Ven Marls and Lower Lias identification make it a distinctive addition to a collection focused on Jurassic ammonites, Dorset fossils or British geological specimens.
