Significance:
Tragophylloceras is an important genus in Early Jurassic biostratigraphy, helping to date and correlate Sinemurian marine strata across Europe. The Green Ammonite Beds of Charmouth and Lyme Regis are particularly renowned for such ammonites, preserved in nodules or shale due to early mineralisation in anoxic conditions.
This piece is not just a fossil—it’s a direct link to the Early Jurassic seas over 190 million years ago, from a globally significant site along the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast.
