Species Information:
Wasp (Scelionidae): Scelionidae is a family of parasitic wasps that lay their eggs inside the eggs or larvae of other insects. These wasps have specialized anatomy to support their parasitic lifestyle, with long antennae and delicate wings. This fossil showcases the Scelionidae Wasp preserved in extraordinary detail, allowing for an excellent view of its morphology.
Ant (Myrmicinae): Myrmicinae is a subfamily of ants, characterized by their small size and distinctive body shape. Known for their complex social structures, Myrmicinae ants play a crucial role in ecosystems as predators, scavengers, and even agricultural workers. The Ant preserved in this fossil shows key features such as legs and antennal segments, providing a rare glimpse into ancient ant life.
Geological & Depositional Context:
Zone: This fossil was formed during the Middle Eocene, approximately 37–47 million years ago.
Morphological Features: The fossil captures clear features of the Wasp’sbody, wings, and antennae, as well as the Ant’sbody structure and legs. The insects are well preserved within the amber, providing excellent views of their anatomies.
Notable: This fossil is notable for its preservation of both a Wasp and an Ant in a single piece of amber. It offers an insight into the ancient ecosystem, with two different species interacting within the same fossil.
Biozone: The fossil is from the Middle Eocene Biozone, which saw a large variety of insects, including parasitic wasps and ants, evolve and diversify.
Depositional Environment: The amber was formed from tree resin in forested environments, where it trapped insects like the Wasp and Ant, preserving them in exceptional detail.
Geological Stage: This specimen dates back to the Middle Eocene, a time of abundant vegetation and diverse life.
Family: Scelionidae (Wasp), Myrmicinae (Ants)
Super Family: Ceraphronoidea (Wasp), Formicoidea (Ants)
Order: Hymenoptera (Wasps, Bees, Ants)
Certificate of Authenticity:
This fossil comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its genuine nature and provenance. The exact Wasp and Ant fossil shown in the photos is the one you will receive.

Eocene
Eocene Information
The Eocene Period (56–33.9 million years ago) was a time of warm global temperatures and the rapid evolution of mammals following the extinction of the dinosaurs. The climate was hot and humid, with lush rainforests covering much of the planet, even near the poles. Mammals diversified into new ecological roles, with early primates, whales (like Basilosaurus), large herbivores, and carnivores emerging. Birds and reptiles also thrived, and the first grasses began spreading, setting the stage for later grassland ecosystems. By the late Eocene, the Earth’s climate cooled significantly, leading to the formation of the first Antarctic ice sheets and the eventual transition to the drier, cooler Oligocene Period.
