Xipheroceras is a genus of early Jurassic ammonites with well-defined ribs, prominent keel, and moderately involute coiling. It is commonly found in nodules or marly matrix from the Sinemurian Stage, making it an important biostratigraphic marker.
These ammonites lived in marine environments during a time when southern England was submerged beneath shallow seas. The Black Ven Marls provided ideal conditions for the exquisite preservation of ammonites and other marine life.
