4.5″ Genuine Spinosaurus Dinosaur Tooth Fossil – Kem Kem Beds, Tegana Formation, Aptian Stage, Cretaceous: Kem Kem Basin, Morocco

This magnificent 4.5-inch fossilised tooth belonged to Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, one of the most unique and largest theropod dinosaurs ever discovered. Unearthed from the famous Kem Kem Beds within the Tegana Formation of the Kem Kem Basin in southeastern Morocco, this specimen originates from the Aptian stage of the Early Cretaceous, dating back approximately 113 to 100 million years.

The Cretaceous Period (145–66 million years ago) was the final era of the Mesozoic, marked by the dominance of dinosaurs and the rise of flowering plants. It had a warm, greenhouse climate, with high sea levels that created vast shallow inland seas. Marine life flourished, including mosasaurs, ammonites, and rudist reefs, while the land was ruled by iconic dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, and Spinosaurus. Mammals and birds diversified, and insects thrived. The period ended with the mass extinction event, likely caused by an asteroid impact, wiping out the dinosaurs and paving the way for the rise of mammals in the Cenozoic.
