**Middle Devonian Geology of Morocco**
The Mrakib area lies within the wider Tafilalt region of south-eastern Morocco, an internationally important source of Devonian marine fossils. During the Givetian, approximately 387 to 382 million years ago, this region formed part of a warm marine environment on the northern margin of the ancient continent Gondwana. Sediments accumulated on and around a shallow continental shelf, preserving the remains of trilobites and many other sea-dwelling organisms within limestone and related sedimentary rocks.
