**Lower Devonian Geology of Ofaten**
During the Lower Devonian, marine sediment accumulated across the seabed of what is now south-eastern Morocco. These environments supported varied communities of trilobites, brachiopods, corals, crinoids, molluscs and cephalopods. Fine sediment and carbonate mud created suitable conditions for the burial and preservation of mineralised exoskeletons.
After this trilobite died, its remains became buried within seabed sediment. Burial helped protect the exoskeleton from complete destruction. Compaction, mineral replacement and chemical alteration gradually transformed the surrounding sediment into rock and preserved the fossil.
